Gas Mileage And Tires
Having the correct tire size and proper tire pressure can save you around 100 bucks a year at today’s gas prices. Using a tire pressure gauge, check your tires at least once a month. Keep them inflated to the manufacturers’ recommended pressure. Do not inflate to the maximum pressure shown on the tires sidewall. The recommended tire pressure is found on the placard on the driver’s door jamb
or on the door itself. You can confirm this information and location by checking your owner’s manual. Along with the pressure is listed the recommended tire size.
When buying new tires, follow the manufacturers’ recommendation for size of tire. You can look for a tire with Low Rolling Resistance. Tests show a tire with LRR gives you, one to two, mpg difference, but you may compromise braking, cornering and weather grip capabilities.
