Just Bought a Harbor Freight Motorcycle Lift

After years of being down on my knees or flat on my back, I finially bought a motorcycle lift. I only wrench on my own stuff so I really couldn’t see dropping 800 to a grand for a nice Handy lift. I settled for a Harbor Freight motorcycle lift, on sale for $299.00.

After I set this lift up, I was amazed, just how long I made it without one. I am seeing my motorcycle like never before. Nothing like having your motorcycle up in the air, and right in your face, I love it. Plus my knees love it!

  1. you are sure making it tempting to get myself of one these harborfreight lifts….everytime I do services on my motorcycles, I am sore for a couple of days afterwards from all the kneeling, bending and such…..it sucks getting old!

How easy is it to store? space is at a premium in my garage…..

  2. It will store standing on end if you have the wall space, it rolls around pretty easy on my garage floor, even with a bike on it. I’m working on rigging a kick stand support and just parking one of the bikes on it when the lift is not in use. It sets 7in. off the floor when it’s all the way down.

  3. thanks for the info, good idea re parking one of the bikes on it even when its not in use….hmmmm, I wonder if I could park one of my beemers on it using the centerstand? I might be able to cobble up some wall space but just parking it on top seems better….

  4. I have always wanted one of these although I don’t know why, because I never do my own maintenance. Not too good with a wrench.

  6. Harbor Frieght huh? When I was in the drywall trade, I would go there all the time to check for my favorite brand of blades…drywall knives aren’t expensive, but I really liked the stainless steel blades…and I went through some blades quickly…

299.00 bucks huh? man, and it looks really nice…better than the small jack type that allows your bike to rock…yeah, I like this fine!

  7. I bought my lift a few years ago and can only say good things about it, i will admit it is a little short for my old school chopper i’m building right now http://bigalscompound.blogspot.com/2009/03/chopper-in-works.html
but besides that it’s GREAT. nice blog by the way…i just found it.

  9. Purchased my first model #91764 motorcycle lift about four months ago and successfully lifted my ’09 Harley Davidson Ultra-glide weighing 852 lbs (from the factory). However on about the third attempt I was unable to lift the motorcycle and after contacting tech support, bleeding the hydraulic cylinder it was still a no go. Harbor Freight exchanged the lift for a new one no questions asked. Once again, however, after lifting the motorcycle successfully two times it was de ja vue all over again!!!! I am on my way back to Harbor Freight for a full refund as no one from Central Hydraulics nor the extended warranty company (AMP) will send a service tech to look at it. Obviously I don’t recommend this for heavier motorcycles even thought they may be under the “so called” 1000 capacity of the lift.

  10. I’ve lifted a 98 Honda ACE 1100, a HD Heritage Softtail, and a 2009 Raider WITH MY WIFE SITTING on it with mine and no issues. I don’t know what they weigh, but the Raider and my wife have to go close to 1000 pounds together I would think. It did lift much harder but got the job done. I wanted to adjust her highway pegs with her on the bike in a riding position, plus to see if it would do it I suppose. I don’t know why it wouldn’t lift the Ultra Glide, maybe low on fluid, but to have two that were the same seems kind of strange. I love mine, and don’t really see any reason to spend more. If you were putting in a bike shop, then I could see buying a better one maybe but for personal use this is more than enough I think. Too bad that didn’t work out for you as the better ones are about another 3 bills I think.

  11. That # 91764 lift has a screw to adjust the working pressure—one would think it would be correct from the factory, but what the heck — it’s from China—who knows—metric conversion rate?? built on Friday??? Anyway, locate the screw & try it—good luck

  12. I have used the harbor fright MC lift for my road king and hertage soft tail . Make sure U strap them down and get the lift that is rated for 1500lbs not the one for 1000Lbs I used a a friends for my bikes rated at 1000lbs with great luck worked fine but was a little shaky. Did motor work as well as took both front and rear tires off the road king at the same time .While up on the lift. When I buy my own I will make sure I get the lift rated for 1500lbs Its is much more steady Last thing yu want is to come back in the morning and find your bike tipped over laying on the ground still in the vice and tied to the lift with the lift laying on it’s side.

  13. I AGREE WITH YOU BUT I HAD TO GO A COUPLE A HUNDRED DOLLARS MORE AND GET THAT ALUMINUM DIAMOND PLATED POWDER-COATED BLACK TO MATCH THE BLACK AND ORANGE HARLEY DAVIDSON LOOKING THEME I GOT GOING ON IN MY SHOP. BLACK-WIDOW HAD A SALE GOING ON SO I TOOK IT, ALSO I’M A LITTLE LAZY THESE DAYS AND IT SURE IS NICE TO PLUG IN MY AIR-COMPRESSOR HOLD THE RED BUTTON DOWN WITH MY THUMB AND WATCH HER GO UP OR DOWN. BEING IN A WHEEL CHAIR MADE THE DECISION TO MAKE THE SMALL INVESTMENT A LITTLE MORE EASY. SO I SAY TO ANY ONE *YES* YES THE INVESTMENT IS WELL WORTH IT. NOW BLACK WIDOW HAS A NICE THIN ONE AIR OVER HYDRAULIC AND IT TAKES ONLY SOMETHING LIKE 8″ X 7′ OF SPACE AND WHEN NOT IN USE IT JUST LIFTS RIGHT UP AND YOU ROLL IT IN THE CORNER OR HANG IT ON THE WALL. BUT YOU DON’T GET A TOOL TRAY WITH IT LIKE THE ONE I HAVE. ANY-WAYS GOOD TOPIC
