The cover of Easyriders Dec 1972 magazine said it all,
Burt Reynolds Eat Your Heart Out
April 1972 Cosmopolitan magazine runs a near-nude centerfold of actor Burt Reynolds. The issue created great controversy, selling out the first day it hit the newsstands, propelling Cosmopolitan to the forefront of American pop culture at the time.
December 1972 Easyriders magazine follows Cosmopolitan’s lead and offers their near-nude answer to the Burt Reynolds Cosmopolitan centerfold. Easyriders did have a problem at first. Burt Reynolds covered his package with his hand, but the boys over at Easyriders couldn’t find anyone on staff with a small enough package to be covered merely with their hand. At first they tried a catcher’s mitt, but thought that looked a little out of place in a biker’s magazine. After trying a wine bottle, a fifth wouldn’t do, they settled on a gallon jug.
At the time, Easyriders was still a start-up magazine and considered somewhat of an underground publication. With only eleven issues under there belt (they were pushing out a magazine every two months) the December issue #12 was the last bi-monthly issue (starting in 73’ they moved to eight issues a year).
The December issue was also the first time a Honda Chopper graced the center section of Easyriders.

I absolutely remember this issue! YOU have it? Why oh why,…didn’t I realize I would like these in about 40 years? Oh that’s right, I wouldn’t have room to haul them from place to place through the years on my bike. I’ve only owned a motorcycle for the last 28 years. Hmmmm… naaa, I’ll read yours!
